Welcome
to the Boston
Chapter of INFORMS
LATEST NEWS:
(3/4/10) The jobs section has been
updated with the latest “word on the street”. Have a job to post? Please let me know. Found a job here? We’d love
to know about it!
(11/2/09) Professor David Simchi-Levi, expert on logistics
and supply chains, will be speaking to the Boston INFORMS chapter about Creating Value in a Volatile World on Wednesday November
18th. Don’t miss it!
(6/29/09) Professor Andrew Lo will present “Kill All the
Quants”?: Models vs. Mania in the Current Financial Crisis. Sounds
like a killer topic! This will be our first multi-chapter meeting, as the Washington, D.C.
INFORMS chapter will be attending via video link.
MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR
Dear chapter members:
I pleased to announce that INFORMS’ first multi-chapter meeting.
INFORMS Boston Chapter and INFORMS Washington Chapter will have a meeting
with an outstanding speaker, Professor Andrew Lo (MIT Sloan) who will speak
about such a timely topic.
The speaker will be physically at Bedford and there will be video
link to McLean, VA.
In Bedford
light refreshments will be offered.
While we encourage people to join the local INFORMS chapter(s) (which is
permitted for a nominal cost without joining the National organization) both
members and not members are encouraged to attend this meeting at no charge.
*** We have been told that all participants must pre-register by sending
their name, organization, email and citizenship to lservi@mitre.org<mailto:lservi@mitre.org> 48 hours in
advance.

INFORMS members:
While we
are very appreciative that Verizon and Emptoris permit us to host many of our
meetings at their facility we are constantly looking for new venues. If your organization would consider being a
host please contact me.
I am
pleased that our membership and more importantly our participation in the
Boston Chapter continues to rise. However, it is my firm belief that the
number of potential members in our chapter is at least an order of magnitude
larger than its actual size. I welcome suggestions in how to unlock that potential:
Are there different types of meetings, at different times or different places
which would help? Are there important non-speaker activities we should be
more engaged in?
As a
small first step to support our chapter I hope when you attend one of our meetings
you will bring one or two colleagues who never attended a meeting to check us
out. If we could double our membership we could explore options for the
Chapter which we cannot currently do.
We are
approaching chapter membership renewal time. Please consider doing so as well
as encouraging colleagues to join. The cost of membership to the Boston chapter is at
most $15 and while we encourage members to join the parent organization they
are not required to.
Finally,
I write to remind you that last year I was elected to the Board of Directors
of INFORMS (as VP Societies/Sections). I hope Boston Chapters members will
use that as an opportunity to give me (National) INFORMS feedback that you
would like me to take back to the Boardroom.
